The La Sagra's flycatcher was refound at Bill Baggs today, 3/5, at about 11:30 a.m. after not having been seen by birders searching the area from about 8:30 a.m. It was found about 200 yards south of the white gate on the nature trail. It worked its way up the trail and was last seen perched on an overhead wire by the rest room near the white gate. It then flew in the direction of the parking lot. The bird does move around.
For those not familiar with the area, the nature trail to take is the one found by leaving the parking lot on foot and heading back toward the entrance. The trail is a very short distance along that road on your right, but cannot be seen from the parking lot. To get to the parking lot from the entrance, take your first right off the main road and the parking lot will be on your left.
After leaving Bill Baggs, I headed South to Florida City where I easily found three common mynas in the first gas station on your right on the road to the Everglades. From there I returned to Miami and easily found a flock of white-winged parakeets as reported, off La Jeune, near the airport. The birds were in the block bordered by 11th and 9th on the north and south, and 40th and 41st on the west and east. They were really buried in some low vegetation and although I could hear them, I couldn't see them until they blasted out of there and flew off south. My next stop was at the Pelican Rehabilitation Station at Pelican Harbor on the causeway crossing Biscayne Bay from NW 79th to Normandy Shores. The red-footed booby was sitting atop the rehabilitation cages with a black-crowned night-heron.
