Hi all: I tried to post this message once, but my computer kicked out on me, just as I was sending, so please forgive the redundancy if it posts twice.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, has anyone seen, or heard reports of Greater Flamingo out in Florida Bay recently?
Also any suggestions of people I could talk to that are out there on a regular basis would be great.
I had a report of a February 8th sighting off Christian Point. Also, a lady that works in the marina store in Flamingo, and, who says she definitely knows the difference betweeen a flamingo and Roseate Spoonbill, said they had two flyovers last week over Buttonwood Canal. On the basis of this, I did a stakeout of the canal for 3 hours one day last week- no joy.
Someone who works for the National Audubon in Tavernier was over Cape Sable way yesterday, but he did not see any flamingos.
All part of the fun, but I have made several trips down Snake Bight Trail, including one not too bright move of hopping over the boardwalk platform into the muck to try to get a better look of the Bay.
I have rented a kayak to get out there, and I think I may do this again, now that I have better information on channels, tides, etc.
Any information, tips, ideas are gratefully appreciated. Thanks, Thor
