A friend and I went to Lucky Hammock late on two afternoons this week. Had not heard that short-eared owls were present and were surprised to have one land by our car on the 31st. The next night, Feb. 1st, we went back and waited for its return. Two short-eared owls showed up promptly at 6:30. Also saw a merlin and a swainson's hawk before dusk on Feb 1st.
