It's pretty rare. There's usually one reported in our area about every 2-3 years or so. I've only seen 2 in 11 years of birding. One was at Flynn's on my first birding trip ever in January, 1999. The other was in October 2008 in my yard. If you work at FIU, I would think you'd want to go over and see it right away. You may not get another chance like this for a while.
Or you can go to Arizona, where they are almost a trash bird.
