And then there were Robins, and there was much rejoicing

After a disappointing pelagic trip today, with only 3 Pomarine Jaegers, two Jaeger sp, and two Shearwater sp. with one being a good candidate for Manx but it just wouldn't let us get close enough to ID, I decided to give the Robins on Research Road another try. Larry had a couple there this morning. I arrived at about 4:00 and drove the length of Research Road twice, paying close attention to the Brazilian Pepper areas. I then went to the La Sagra's spot and chatted a while with some out-of-state birders. I don't think they were convinced by my argument that American Robin IS a better bird than La Sagra's Flycatcher.

After that I left the park, always keeping a vigil for anything Robin-like. By this point I had given up on this infernal species for the year, so I stopped at the entrance to Lucky Hammock to photograph some Scissor-tailed Flycatchers and Western Kingbirds on the wires. (Did Toe say photograph?) I never said they were "good" photographs, did I?

While taking a couple of shots through my sunroof, what do I see fly overhead: 3 Robins heading in the direction of ENP. Whew! How could I do a big year and NOT have Robin? I drove home very relieved, knowing I gave it my best effort till the last hour on the last day. As Tiny Elvis would say: "Man, this year was Huuuge!"

Happy New Year everyone!!
