I'd be really interested in seeing the photos of your all-black Icterids. Common Grackles would be my guess, as they are the ones most often recorded from there -- but a photo would be good just to make sure.
I've never seen Shiny Cowbird anywhere (Florida, Venezuela, Costa Rica) foraging in the tops of trees in the way you describe. They like to feed on short, grassy lawns.
