On the way home this afternoon I stopped and check the bay from the canoe launch at 173 St. off Old Cutler Road. Off to the southeast I spotted two male Black Scoters pretty far out, but the yellow knob on the bill was visible. These were sitting on the water. Straight due east there was a single Horned Grebe feeding. These can be a real bi*&^h, since they spend more time under water than above. Once you spot one, and it submerges, you have to strain looking at the scope forever until it comes back up! There were two flocks of Red-breasted Mergansers farther south, with the larger one containing about 30 individuals.
