Redstarts are becoming more frequent in North Broward and as the Land Stewarship Committee was were trimming the Garden at Hoechoka Hammock there were many prairie, and palm warblers. Mottled ducks still the most numerous and the great egret continues to visit the same cypress and arrange sticks. Odd bevavior when it doesn't appear to have a mate. We have had numerous oppportunities to watch the mottled duck interaction with raccoons. They hang about 30 feet away as the animal moves along the shore line. It always appears indifferent. I've seen raccoons attack and kill chickens but never a duck. Hope I don't.

For more information on Hoechoka Hammock see our webpage now up and running under mhocrc.org and go to the Land Stewardship section. Mind you, not stewardship unless you want to give money. But Land Stewardship (someone stole our name)
