This may be relevant; this Sunday during a paddle around the north shore of Snake Bight I saw about sixty Western Sandpipers and a dozen Semipalmated Sandpipers as well as about as many unidentified peeps . Most of the birds were in partial alternate plumage but some were in basic plumage and there were no juveniles. Shorebirds of most any species aren t unusual during the summer but these numbers caught my attention. Otherwise the mix of shorebirds wasn t remarkable; there were a few American Avocets in alternate plumage, nesting Black-necked Stilts, one Marbled Godwit, numerous Willets, Black-bellied Plovers, and Greater Yellowlegs, and a few Semipalmated Plovers, Ruddy Turnstones, and Dowitcher species. There were also about a dozen American White Pelicans but I saw no Dunlins or Least Sandpipers. At Flamingo the only birds seen worth mentioning at were a couple of Shiny Cowbirds with the Brown-headed Cowbird and Starling flock.
