I was visiting my parents back in 1978 &'79, who lived on SW 84th Terr. That is near Snapper Creek. And that was before hurricane Andrew knocked down trees in the area. Anyway, several of those exotic species are, or were to be found in backyards. Red-whiskered Bulbuls often showed upat the birdbath around 4 p.m. And Spot-breasted Orioles also like the birdbath. Gray Kingbirds often sat on telephone wires in the neighborhood, waiting for the occasional Swallow-tailed Kite to pass by in order to attack. I saw a Little Bittern at Fairchild Tropical Gardens, close up. And a Hill Mynah liked to wake the neighborhood up with its screeching calls. So I suggest taking a walk in that nieghborhood and along Snapper Creek, and over to Matheson Hammock/Fairchild gardens. Also check out Castalow Hammock.
