Greetings,
I've not been to FL since 2000 and have been kicking myself for not birding on that family vacation... so here's the question:
My husband and I are looking for the following, how do we find the closest reliable ones to Gasparilla Island?
Florida Scrub Jay
Gray Kingbird
Smooth-billed Ani
Snail Kite
Least Bittern
Limpkin
Black-whiskered Vireo
Mangrove Cuckoo
Short-tailed Hawk
Bahama Mockingbird
Zenaida Dove
White-crowned Pigeon
Roseate Tern
Antillean Nighthawk
Shiny Cowbird
Spot-breasted Oriole
Red-whiskered Bulbul
Common Myna
Hill Myna
Cuban Golden Warbler (status?)
Towards the end of the list, I digress - we're not determined to get every exotic in the state, so feel free to ignore them if there's nothing reliable in the area. We do hope to at least make it to the Keys at some point, but the last week of July doesn't seem like the best time to bird FL so our expectations are relatively low for migrants. We're both fluent in West & Gulf Coast species, so pelagics would be awesome if y'all have any suggestions.
Many thanks!
-Heidi & Matt
