This is a quick report on the Masked Duck that Kevin Sarsfield and I located and identified at the wetlands mentioned by Steve Siegel. There is a boardwalk in the wetlands. Take the right fork (south) and go to the end. The bird was seen about 100 feet from the boardwalk slightly west of due north. There is a small arrow on the boardwalk rail pointing to the direction where the bird was seen. The bird was seen between 9:30 and 10:00 am on 5/19/2001. During that time the bird (male) remained motionless and is very cryptic, except for its bill. My advice is to try different angles looking into the windows formed by the vegetation and try to pick up the bird's flamboyant bill--"clean lenses and quick focusing"!
