I just checked the blog link and could not post a comment there. I am interested in knowing whether the folks who removed the front cover found any evidence of nestlings or eggs? pellets on the ground or in the box? The bird using the box showed signs of caring for young or eggs when i visited (e.g. hunting and returning to box several times just before sunset one day), yet i am unsure if there was sufficient time for young to fledge. However, i haven't gone back and computed the timeline since the first report of owls at this box. i first saw a gray phase in the box around March 5, which was 1 week or more after the first report. is it possible that the owls might have successfully nested and that young went undetected? my best recollection is that i observed the bird returning to the box several times before sunset (i believe hunting anole lizards) in the timeframe of April 5-6, on an overcast afternoon. my hunch at that time was that the bird was feeding young, but this was my only evidence. i guess my suggestion is that it might be possible that this was a successful nesting, but what the workers found on the floor of the box would be the best evidence one way or another, i think. i was surprised there was no mention of any owl sign in or around the box in the linked blog. i hope the owls return next season. -ken
