Thanks to both leaders, Brian and Paul for the great trip we had! We were fortunate to have what we called a "magical tree" at the headquarters of Fort DeSoto. It was a ficus tree loaded with berries and the birds went crazy. There were so many varieties of birds in this one tree you did not know where to look first. The tree was truly decorated with birds. At one point a Northern Parula in his full colors was perched a mere three feet above Brian Rapoza's head. We marveled at just how tiny this bird really was when viewed close up and not through the binoculars. There were Scarlet Tanagers,Orchard Orioles,Black-throated Blue warblers, and even a brilliant mango colored Summer Tanager with just a hint of red under his tail, all adorning the tree at the same time. This was only a few that were present. In other locations, we had spectacular looks at the Blue-winged,Hooded,Chestnut-sided and Kentucky Warblers. There were other birds that were very intersting as well. We definitely had plenty of birds to keep us busy during this trip!
