Greetings -
I've been lurking on the TAS Bird Board for quite a while and have taken a lot of notes. I leave Colorado tomorrow for a week of birding in south Florida, including two nights camping at the Dry Tortugas.
For many of my target species, I think I have good information, but I have questions on a few:
Fulvous-whistling duck - a few were reported at Cutler wetlands a little while ago. Is this a good place to try? Would it be worth looking out around Belle Glade, or is this not the right time of year for that area?
Short-tailed hawk - this species seems to be reported sporadically from many locations. Are there any fairly reliable areas or is it hit or miss?
Spot-breasted oriole and white-winged parakeet - there were recent posts about the area on Stanford Dr. at the Univ. of Miami. Is this as good a place as any to try?
Least bittern - past reports at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands. Is this worth a trip?
Swainson's warbler - I saw the recent informative post by John Hutchinson. My question is about the narrow migration window - has this bird mostly moved through or will there still likely be some around in the next week?
Thanks for any advice or tips. I have really enjoyed reading this list the past month or so, and especially like the idea of tipping up a good brew at the end of a day of birding. That is one "target" I can get for sure!
