Least Terns are considered a species of special concern and endangered because their nesting habitats are dramatically reduced each year. Beach nesting success rates are reduced by human and animal distrubances and there are now few flat roof buildings with tar and gravel finish - a favorite location for the terns. Though natural, depredation by Fish Crows at the roof locations doesn't help matters.
