This morning I visited Miami Beach at N.W. 75th St., east of Collins Avenue,to look for my life Arctic Tern, which was posted by Steve Siegel yesterday on our TAS website. I arrived at 10:00 a.m. and within 10 minutes an Arctic flew right in front of me and landed on the beach in front of the lifeguard station to the north. Soon after a storm-petrel species whizzed by about 400 yards offshore. Several juvenile Northern Gannets were feeding offshore. Two more Arctic Terns flew by very close to shore, but the coup de grace was a
flock of 9 heading north. All Actic Terns were in adult breeding plumage. Just before leaving at 11:00 a.m. a breeding plumaged Sanderling flew in and joined a small flock of winter plumaged birds. There are parking meters at the end of N.W 75th St., which require $1.00 in change per hour. The winds seemed to be dying down some as I was leaving. Life is good.......
