Wow, that's some stimulus package and it's not in the billions! I have a pair of Nikon Sporter1 ( 8 X 36) that I have to say are really good and only cost $130 ( I think I got them from Christoper LTD). I also have a pair of compacts by Zeiss, which are only 8 X 20, but have the top of the line, Victory glass in them. Both pairs are fairly light weight, excellent clarity, and certainly water resistant. Weight is an issue with me especially on those 8-10 mile hikes..
I think with binoculars it is personal issue, especially if you are near-sighted, or astimagtic, because not all lenses ( and the prism inside the binos) can "correct" for your vision issues. Just something to keep in mind. But this deal from Eagle does sound ...tempting!
