While the species may have occurred as a natural vagrant in southern Florida in the late 1800s, all recent reports of the species in North America have been of introduced, hybridized or escaped birds. Eggs from Trinidad were placed in White Ibis nests in Hialeah Race Track Park in 1962, and the resulting population hybridized with the native ibis, producing "pink ibises" that are still occasionally seen. As a young boy I remember two occasions where a hybrid pink Ibis landed in my grandmas house and foraged along with the White Ibis. She lives right in front of the park; we have also witnessed 23 Flamingos from the park land in her yard as well. Also the Greynold's Park roost may have had some hybrids as well. The Scarlet Ibis remains as a review species by the FOSRC.
