When you enter Green Cay take the boardwalk that crosses to the east from the visitor's center. When you come to the "T" of the boardwalks turn north (left). You will come to a palmetto thatched chickee. Proceed north, looking to your right (east). You will see a dead cabbage palm, the screech owl box is hung on it.
The owl house was donated by my mom, Ruth Trotta last year. My mother passed away recently, January 15, 2009.
We took her to Green Cay often. It was by far her favorite place to go. When she was no longer able to walk we would put her in a wheel chair and she would cruise over the boards as though she was wandering in the River of Grass. She truly loved that place because of the sense of freedom, exploration, and discovery Green Cay gave her.
I hope many people get the chance to enjoy "her" owls.
