Micheal O'Brien, an awesome birding by ear and warbler guy, gave me a good tip. He said the Rough-winged have a flying behavior where they tuck their wings in towards the body, a slight stutter in flight, where the Tree Swallows TEND to have their wings more straight out. I saw a lot of them at one time and its true. Of course all the swallows don't read the book and each will do both, but as a general rule, the Rough-wings bring their wings in at times.
