I haven't seen any Smooth-billed Ani's at Loxahatchee in the last four years, but there was a pair of Snail Kites (the same pair from this past summer?) there this past Wednesday (18-Feb-2009) that appeared to be preparing to nest again at the very same spot.

Head south from the Marsh Trail parking lot. Go past the first levy heading west and keep a watch to your right (west) where you may see them. The nest is located behind the wooden blind further to the south just before the second westerly levy.

There is also a nesting pair of Red-shouldered Hawks across the bridge from the observation tower (in the crown of a palm). And while no one has (to my knowledge) found the nest yet, there is a pair of (nesting?) Great-horned Owls on the property again -- as in the past few years.

Rick
