Someone can see your personal location if they do a species search. For example, if you go to maps and type in Franklin s Gull and look in Florida, you ll see a yellow ballon in Miami-Dade. The yellow ballon indicates a sighting within the last 30 days. If you click on the ballon, you ll see that there were two sightings reported at a personal location (11/15/08 and 1/27/09) in the Cutler Bay area by Angel and Mariel.

Ebird is a great tool for planning a birding trip. I used it for our Arizona trip, and I am presently using it to plan our trip to Texas. Between the ABA books, Falcon Guides, eBird, and numerous site-specific websites, your odds of seeing target birds are greatly improved.
