I got off to a late start today due to some morning errands, so I decided to do some birding at Crandon Beach first. I immediately found a small flock of Piping Plovers with the SNOWY PLOVER nestled within the crowd. Plover numbers and shorebird numbers and diversity overall seemed down since Robin's post. Other shorebirds included Sanderling, Dunlin, and a couple Semipalmated Plovers. Where did all the shorebirds go?

Gulls, however, were NOT in short supply: Laughing, Herring, Lesser Black-backed, Great Black-backed, and Ring-billed were all present in multiples (in the Laughing Gull's case, a couple hundred strong). The only tern species present was Royal.

Afterwards, I headed off to A.D. Barnes where I immediately had Red-bellied Woodpecker scaling a trunk at the entrance. Otherwise, it seemed quiet at first with only Pine Warblers and Blue-grey Gnatcatchers. However, I eventually ran into a feeding flock by the elevated boardwalk: Blue-headed Vireo, Black-throated Green Warbler, American Redstart, Prairie Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, Orange-crowned Warbler, Northern Parula, and Palm were all present. The 'best' of the crowd was a beautiful and rather vocal MAGNOLIA WARBLER and a SUMMER TANAGER. Bizarre misses include Yellow-rumped Warblers. None were to be found today.

Tomorrow, it's off to the Neotropic Cormorant!

Carlos
