The four ruddy ducks (?) reported by Alex several weeks past are still at Windmill Park in Coconut Creek across the street from CC High School. The color configuration doesn't seem to match Kale, Floyd, Sibley, or Thayer but that erect tail and blue bill point to Ruddy Duck. But still, I wonder if it isn't a lesser scaup?
Whatever they are they are alive and well Alex, and appear to be being fed by the neighbors on the east side.....oh well, it is an imperfect world.
We used a 600 mm lens on this picture as the whole raft of four stayed at 55 yards and in one hour they never came an inch closer. Another field note, two pied bill grebes tried to associate with them but the ducks always pulled away.
Any thoughts on the identity?
