There are actually several hunting seasons, for different types of weapons and different game. The bow season is the first season, and after the first two weekends, it's basically over, as very few bowhunters bother after the 2nd weekend - the game is all spooked. Also, bow shots are made at 30 yards or less, so there is no danger, as there may be in firearm season, of stray bullets. If you have any qualms, just wear a blaze orange vest and cap to make yourselves perfectly safe. Firearms season you might want to avoid on the opening weekend, and even the 2nd weekend - it can be a zoo in the more popular areas. But the gun season is only 4 weeks long. Muzzleloader season is rather less busy, and their range is much less. Again, avoid the opening weekend, and thereafter wear blaze orange. It's only a couple weeks I think. Hunting statistically is one of the safest sports. And for each of the seasons, only the first, and in firearms season maybe also the second weekend, have enough hunter traffic to make some of the more popular areas unattractive to non-hunters. I've always been a birder, and I used to hunt when I had time, and I never had the slightest problem doing both at the same time.
