There was a Black-necked Stork around Shark Valley 30+ years ago. It turned out to be an escapee from the old Crandon Park Zoo. There has never been a report of a Jabiru in south Florida
since 1964 at least. It is not in the old, but still useful, Everglades national Park Bird Checklist: A Habitat Guide to Birds of Everglades National Park by Bill Robertson et al published in 1991 by the Florida National Parks and Monuments Association and still sold in the bookstores in ENP or in the more recent Checklist of South Florida Birds published by Tropical Audubon Society in 1996.
I do not recognize the checklist that you are referring to. Who published it?

: I chanced upon a friend's copy of the latest edition (Sep 2001) of the Everglades NP bird list today. Aside from being appalled that the list is presented in aphabetical order -- "for your convenience" -- rather than in phylogenetic order, I was intrigued by the report of an escaped Jabiru. There certainly has never been a published observation of Jabiru in Florida, and the ENP report seems dubious at best. Does anybody in M-D County know the basis for the inclusion of this species on the list?
