This evening I went to Dump Marsh and met up with Mike Resch from MA who was looking for Lesser Nighthawk for his state list. He had seen the Tropical Kingbird earlier in the afternoon. At around 5:45, 3 Lesser Nighthawks put on an awesome display by the pond south of the wastewater facility, coming to within 30 feet of us at times. There was still sufficient light to ger awesome looks. The nighthawks soon left towards the east. As we began walking back to the cars, a Canada Goose flew in from the north to the pond to roost. This is probably the same Canada Goose seen last week at the wastewater plant on 232 St. A Sora called briefly from the pond. At the cars, two more nighthawks buzzed us as they flew towards Mt. Trashmore. We also saw a large bat, about 3/4 the size of the nighthawks. Any ideas on the species?
