This particular nest, on Pines Boulevard just west of 208th Ave, did have one fledgling when surveyed by FWS on April 6th, so you may be referring to a different location. This nest was pretty well hidden from the road until a melaleuca tree in front of it fell, around March 2008. We, too had seen the eagles near Pines & US 27, but did not see a nest, or even any suitable trees in that area, though the birds were carrying sticks around December, 2007. If there are any other nests in the area, FWS should be given the location so they may be registered and (maybe) given some protection under the Florida Eagle Management Plan.
