As I drove down 232 St. by the floway and wastewater treatment plant before dawn, an awl flushed from left to right and nearly hit my car. I say it looked intersting because the quick look I got made showed some streaking on a white belly, with size and shape very consistent with Short-eared. I can't say for sure since I got a short look, but we have to check for this species right about now. If I'd hit it, I would have driven away, real fast.
