I arrived at the C-111/fallow field Le Conte s Sparrow site yesterday morning and began walking the edge of the fallow field I was soon pleased to have visiting birder Todd McGrath, followed by Larry Manfredi, joining in the search. Numerous Savannah Sparrows, 3-4 Grasshopper Sparrows, and lone Clay-colored & Lincoln s Sparrows were seen, but no Le Conte s. After awhile, Larry had to leave and then Todd was in the process of leaving, when he yelled out to me (I was around 100 yards away from him at this point) that he had relocated the Le Conte s Sparrow (10:00 am), which was approximately 75 feet down from where the fallow field begins/from where the large tree is. The Le Conte s Sparrow was flushed from a thin patch of tall grass closest to the base of the lower berm vegetation. I ran to where Todd had flushed the bird, but by then it had flown into a large clump of dried grass 2/3 of the way up the berm, where it was not visible. Todd & I approached the location of the bird, but it had apparently flown away. After Todd left, I spent the next three hours birding the field area and periodically revisited the Le Conte s Sparrow location, but could not relocate the bird. The bird was in the same general area where Trey had seen it the day before John
