Well we have seen both sharp-tailed sparrows before and yes we always carry a notebook to write down notes in the field. The habitat we were in was not ideal for sharp-tailed sparrows. Nelson's prefer freshwater marshes, wet meadows and brackish marshes along the coast. Saltmarsh prefer salt marshes. On the other hand Le Conte's prefer open grassy fields and dense grass, which fits the location we found it in.

We referenced our field guide & notes immediately upon our return to the car. Although we have to say Toe is really awesome! We rely on our field notes, photos if possible and reference guides to make a sound identification of a species.

Anyhow the Le Conte's Sparrow was awesome! Great to hear that Brian and Trey got to observe the bird too!
