But how would you have known what field marks to look for if you didn't have a field guide handy? Juvenile LeConte's look a bit different than adults, with less yellow-orange on the face. Could you have differentiate it from other Ammodramus sparrows (sharp-taileds, etc.) off the top of your head? Did you rely on the "Toe factor"? Did you have a field notebook to take down notes or did you memorize it all until you got home? By then your celebratory libation(s) would have clouded your memory;)
Ouch, that's just too much grilling! Where's John Boyd? He should be doing this instead. Oh well, you guys are young, you can handle it.
Remember, if I'm going to be relying on you guys to find me these good birds...
