There were so many mosquitos we decided not to do the canoe trip. But oddly enough, on Wednesday, a lone canoer was in the back of a canoe, and leaned over to see or photograph an alligator better, and fell into the water! The marina dispatched a boat and he was rescued in about five minutes. We were told this almost never happens, and no one has ever been hurt by an alligator or crocodile But what timing, just when I am trying to convince my wife how safe this all is. One aside, the crocodiles are coming to the marina with their mouths open, and have surely been feed by humans.

Regarding birds, in two days I saw, all flying, 3 White Pelicans, 2 Wood Storks, 1 Spoonbill, 1 N. Harrier and 1 Peregrine. Also seen where 3 American Bittern, along the main road. It is possible I saw some other interesting hawks, terns, gulls, flycatchers, but my identification skills are not there yet. Only saw one non-Palm warbler, a Yellow-throated Warbler. If you are interested in seeing American Crows, Vultures or Osprey, Flamingo is the place to go.
