If you only have a day, and plenty of big glass, I would recommend Cutler Wetland in Cutler Ridge (about an hour south of Hollywood in light traffic, longer in heavy). You will have a good selection of water birds with good visibility. Ospreys dive, ibises feed, avocets, stilts, shorebirds, etc. The problem is a south-facing exposure and residential backgrounds to east and west.
Your best bet for close-up work and Florida birds would be the Shark Valley section of Everglades National Park (out US 41). Also good visibility, and enough to keep you busy for hours if you want typical waders, gallinules, etc. No rarities expected here.
One other unexpected gem is at the entrance to Key Biscayne behind the marina, just after you leave Virginia Key (this is all in Miami). Behind the marina is an island where frigate birds roost and fly. Very accessible to 500mm glass, especially if you have an extender.
Watch the Birdboard when you get near your trip, and remember, weekday driving around here takes longer than you may think.
Hope this helps.
