I should add to new kayakers and canoeists, do be careful to avoid getting stranded amongst the mud flats in Snake Bight and in plenty of other vicinities in Florida Bay. It's essentially impossible to walk out (you get sucked down to China). Navigational charts are available. I've been able to get by with the National Geographic water-resistant map for the Everglades.
