Roger,
I have window feeders all over the house.have for years and always had rubys at them all season long though they certainly feed from the plants as well.
The way I found the rufous in my yard was because it flew up in my face and flared as I put out another feeder last week.
I think you need to change the solution every other day to keep it fresh in the florida sun (and even shade)I just make up a bunch and keep it in the fridge.
