Warblers moving through---finally. Palm warblers in the grass. Blue-gray gnatcatchers in increasing numbers. Numerous mottled ducks are now coming to the adjacent waterways. Redstarts in the hammock proper.

And best of all, one magnificent red-shouldered hawk diligently working the dove and squirrel population. Three attacks yesterday went within 15 feet of me as I was working in the Garden area. This bird has no fear! Why would it. We are a bird sanctuary.

Catbriar, pyschotria, hamelia, Virginia Creeper are all in berry and the grounds are covered with dahoon holly in fruit. It seems that mockingbirds stake out a holly until all the berries are gone then they move on to the next. We are also accomodating about 7 brown thrasher and loggerhead shrikes are now numbering three.
