After picking up my bride, Pamela, at Ft.Lauderdale Airport this afternoon upon returning from Charlotte , North Carolina to help my daughter-in law with my hatchling grandson, Johnathan, and while dining at the Islamorada Fish Company, I mentioned the Least Grebes being seen up in Boca Raton. She suggested that due to our close proximity, we should drive north and check them out.

Ironically, she saw the Least Grebe on the road to Marco Island in April of 1990, so wanting to please her, I agreed to fulfill her request. Carl Edwards and Linda McCandless were there when we arrived. While scoping the bird, I witnessed the zebra- striped hatchling climb up it's parents back and nestle under the wing, while the parents change shifts incubating the second egg. I later saw the hatchling sitting on the parents back and saw a red dot on its forehead.

Carl reached the Fish and Game Commission about the possiblity of having the four-foot alligator removed and they have placed his request under advisement.

I have to teach tonight so I will have to hold the quaffing of my celebratory libation until after work. I think a Samuel Adams Octoberfest saesonal brew may be in order. Life is good.......even if my wife is a birding elitist!
