Check out the books and/or photos for female Golden-winged to see if that's what you saw. A male would have a very distinct black throat, which is unmistakable. I can't think of another warbler that would have the gold epaulets that you describe.
On the issue of it being possible: NO! since I haven't seen one since 2004. No, No, you can't. Blah, blah, blah, "I'm not listening". Seriously, it's very possible. They are rare, but not impossible. Hope you get to see it again. Good luck!
