19 birders met for the first walk of the fall migration on a beautiful Sunday morning at AD Barnes Park; just like last year, the front gate was shut when we arrived. Fortunately, we did not have to do a parking shuffle this year, as it was discovered that the gate was in fact unlocked.

Even before the walk started, there were birds seen in the trees, and our first migrant of the day was a Worm-eating Warbler working the oaks over our cars. We also had a fly-by of a flock of Mitred Parakeets and several unidentified amazona parrots.

Highlights during the walk included a trio of Baltimore Orioles in some pine snags, and an Orchard Oriole which provided quick but good looks.

About half the group left after we arrived back at the cars after our ist loop around the park, but the rest did a second loop around the Nature Center, adding several birds to the day s list including Ovenbird, several Great Crested Flycatchers, and a cooperative and vocal Yellow-throated Vireo.

Just like last year s initial walk, the day ended with great looks at a good warbler this year, a Blackburnian that even came down from a small oak and landed briefly in the grass! That gave us 10 warbler species for the day, not bad for only mid-September.

Thanks to all who participated. The day's list:
