Its a good time to see Hoodeds! Or at least TO HEAR THEM.
No less than 4 individual Hooded Warblers were on the west end of the service road. (2 F, 2 M)
Soon after I met up with Toe this afternoon, we first heard and then saw at least two female hoodeds (one decidedly a 1st-yr F). Their short and flat -teep- calls have a subtle metallic ring, and could be heard simultaneously from various locations.
After Toe left, I followed the road towards the great oak on the northwest side. 2 Male Hooded Warblers were there with various Redstarts, all very vocal.
Dusk was a treat, with many birds vocalizing, including a moment when a visible Lousiana Waterthrush, an Ovenbird, and a shy Northern Waterthrush were all calling at once.
Unfortunately, a Traill's Empid on the western end remained quiet throughout.
Migration is on.
