On Tuesday as the winds were blowing, I checked the farm fields in Florida City for shorebirds. I found a nice number of species as well as the Horned Lark! I saw the Buff-breasted as well as a couple of Upland Sandpipers and a single White-rumped Sandpiper. There were also 6 Black Terns feeding over all of the flooded areas.
Today the water level is down with much fewer birds, the Horned Lark was again present about 8:15 a.m., day 12! I saw fewer species of shorebirds, the best being two Upland Sandpipers.
I have attached a photo of a beautiful Stilt Sandpiper, in my opinion, one of the most attractive shorebird!
