Today (8/15) I had a better and longer look at the mystery woodpecker. It's a female Downy, an unusual bird for the park. It seems to be a dark race (Picoides pubescens pubescens) found in southeast TX and southeast VA to South Florida. The wing coverts are brownish black and the underparts are washed brownish.

In the same area, a female Baltimore Oriole has replaced the Orchard Orioles seen earlier in the week.
