where take 10year old birding this afternoon?

We live on US27 and Johnson St, which is 3 miles south of Everglades Holiday Park. We've done some birding in our immediate area. I've promised my son a field trip a bit more "afield." I've seen postings where folks have gone north on 27 to the sod farms. Krome Ave is directly south of us to hit the s. dade agricultural area. Or, we could do Virginia Key, Cape Florida, et.al. Or, we could go west on Alligator Alley and take in the Big Cypress. Any thoughts?
