Hello, I finally had a sighting for a raptor I had been hearing during my last few visits to a store. Today I turned around to see 3 very large raptors flying around a nearby natural area. The raptors flew low enough that I was not able to get a good view of the under wing area, but the rest of the body was dark brown or black and had no easily visible markings, although one did seem to have a lighter coloration on it's chest. These were very large, approximately the size of a vulture. I heard the calls and tried to match what I heard to the birds that looked similar in my Sibley, but the closest match was a Common Black-hawk, minus the wide white band on the tail.
This birds have been regularly heard for the last month, or so, near 441 and Hillsboro Blvd (right next to Super Wal-mart). There is the Helene Klein Pineland Preserve and Hillsboro Pineland nearby as well.
Does anyone have any idea what they could be?
