At Hoechoka Hammock, 24 acres, (Sawgrass and University)we have had good success with black oil sunflowers, white millet, very little red millet, safflower seed, and niger. We buy ours in bulk and mix it. The sunflower is always placed at a different feeder since it leaves "debris".

Our feeding program is to widely disperse the feeders and to skip days. Some ground feeding is practiced to accomodate the doves. At the duck feeding station we mix cracked corn in with the seed mixture. The blue jays, grackles, dove, red-winged bb, and cardinal "clean up" what the ducks don't eat.

Come December we start using suet feeders and cooked unsalted peanuts are occasional treats. Woodpeckers, cardinals and bluejays enjoy them. The bluejays inevitably bury the peanuts and each evening the raccoons search them out and eat them

Half oranges are put out in December - April.

Stop by when you can and see how it all works.

One last note; we always check the feeders to see what is left over at day's end. In that way we measure the amount and type of seed that is used. We prefer to have totally empty feeders at days end---especially in the summer with high humidity.
