Please DO NOT ATTEMPT TO HANDLE THE BIRD WITHOUT A PROFFESIONAL! You may further injure the bird or yourself. A Limpkin is not exactly the kind of bird you would try to subdue with out any experience. It is not a small bird and can probably do some damage with its stout bill. Please call FWC or a Lic. Wildlife Rehab center that does not require you to handle the bird yourself.
Once abundant in Florida, the Limpkin was almost eradicated by humans hunting for food. Conversion of wetlands for agriculture, flood control, and development have further contributed to the species' decline in Florida, estimated at about 9.1 percent per year from 1966 to 1993. -Cornell Lab of Ornithology
