I live on the corner of SW55th Avenue and SW78th Street ,six blocks south of the Doc Thomas House
and Botanical Garden, headquarters of The Tropical Audubon Society, Inc. The area is known as High Pines
and is still part of unincorporated Miami-Dade County.
The latest bird that I have added to my window list
is a White-crowned Pigeon. At this time of year the white-crown really stands out.
Previous window birds have included Swallow-tailed Kite, Merlin, Kestral, Short-tailed Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, Hill Myna, Blue and Gold Macaw( the last two almost every day ). No Pileated Woodpeckers yet, but one was just reported a mile from here. Also, BA(before Hurricane Andrew) I used to regularly see
Red-whiskered Bulbuls. How could I forget the Spot-breasted Orioles.
There are worse places to live.
