Today my good friends Nancy and Bruce Moreland joined me for a full day of birding at Loxahatchee NWR, Wakodahatchee Wetlands and Green Cay Wetlands. Nancy was hoping to photograph a few baby birds, and she sure got her wish.
We began at the photo blind area at Loxahatchee where, as advertised in recent posts, Snail Kites were obliging photographic subjects. Two young were visible in the nest near the photo blind; we found another nest on the opposite side of the same impoundment, but couldn't tell if young were present. We saw at least three pairs of kites in the area. A nice assortment of birds were found at both Wakodahatchee and Green Cay, including young of several species. Most photogenic were a pair of Red-winged Blackbirds at Green Cay, feeding a chick at a nest located about ten feet from the boardwalk!
